Solidarity. Appropriation. Reverse.
English version below
Sexualisierter Gewalt gehen sexualisierte Machtstrukturen voraus. Auch in der Kunst.
Dagegen positioniert sich die Ausstellung โSolidarity. Appropriation. Reverse.โ

Solidarity. Appropriation. Reverse.
is a project in the series „Sexed Power | Art in the Context of Sexualized Power“. The exhibition first took place at MOM art space in 2018 and has since been repeated on International Women’s Day. This year, the focus is on artistic negotiations of the three concepts of Solidarity, Appropriation and Reverse and their significance for feminist* demands and struggles.
Asking for feminist* solidarity, idealistic appropriation and the resulting reversal in a time of political conflict and war? Especially in these times of dichotomies, enemy stereotypes and hatred, in which violence, abuse and fake solidarity are on the rise and trust in fundamental rights (women’s* rights are human rights) and democracy is dwindling, it is important not to lose sight of feminist* goals. The particular suffering of women* and queer people fleeing from wars and crises is usually not seen and not named. Instead, feminism* is increasingly being incorporated into capitalism, while the number of femicides worldwide has reached a sad new record according to UN reports, less than 5% of sexual assaults on women* are prosecuted in Germany and new laws disenfranchise queer life.
Sexualized violence is preceded by sexualized power structures. Also in art.
The exhibition „Solidarity. Appropriation. Reverse.“
As in previous years, Nan Goldin, a quasi-historical feminist* position from the 1970s, will be juxtaposed with current artistic works.
Goldin’s cinematic and photographic view of queer subcultural life, but also her activist struggle, are present to us and become a guideline in the reflection on a resistant and autonomous artistic perception and practice.
Also on display are works by the artists Caroline von Grone, Kyung-wha Choi-Ahoi, Anne Meerpohl & ANna Tautfest, Dagmar Rauwald, Jenny Schรคfer, Alina Desyatnichenko and Olga Shirokostup.

[1] The protest of the JVP (Jewish Voice for Peace) with its appeal NOT IN OUR NAMES, which Nan Goldin joined in November 23, did not remain without consequences for the controversial American-Jewish artist, who has long been critical of Israeli politics and culturally boycotted Israel. We, the individual artists, are currently unable to put ourselves in your position – but we vehemently distance ourselves from the boycott of Israel.
